Lynwood guest house is a deceptively large Victorian villa in a prime
location just a 10 minute walk from Cambridge's historic city centre and 31
colleges. The river Cam is only a 5 minute walk away along with the Old
Spring Pub, Waterman Pub, Boat House Pub, Fort Saint George Pub and The
Portland Arms Pub, we also have Midsummer House restaurant which is a 2 star
Michelin restaurant overlooking the river Cam. Also Chesterton 22 is a fine
dining restaurant which is a few minutes walk away, and we have a variety of
shops and restaurants in the area, two Chinese and one Indian two Chinese
takeaways and Tommy Tuckers chip shop and an Indian takeaway, chemist
newsagents Co-op Spar Coffee shop and a nice Bakers HSBC and Barclays banks
and as we are renowned for being a cycling city we have two bike shops
University cycles and the Cambridge light blue, we also have a laundrette
with a service wash facility.
We are also very close to the Westbrook centre, Science and Business parks,
and Castle park in Castle street.
We have two buses that run up to Addenbrookes Hospital which is about 20-30
minute bus ride away via the city centre and railway station, with links to
Kings cross saint Pancras and the Euro Tunnel, also lines to Liverpool
street, Kings Lynn, Norwich, and Peterborough and Stanstead airport,
Marshalls airport in Cambridge is only a 10-15 minute drive away 50-60
minutes on foot. The railway station is a good 40 minutes walk, the
University library and the Sir Isaac Newton maths institute are 15-20
minutes' walk away as well as the Law Faculty, Cambridge Arts Theatre and
Corn Exchange 15 minutes walk, the Grafton indoor shopping centre and Anglia
Ruskin University are also only 10-15 minutes' walk across Midsummer common.
Boat trips on the Georgina: Which go to Baits bite lock and Ely leave from a
mooring just past the Boathouse pub On Chesterton road.
Jesus Green: Which hosts the comedy club tent and the beer festival and one
of the largest outdoor swimming pools in the Country is a fantastic facility
for Cambridge.
Parkers Piece: Home to Jack Hobbs the cricketer 100 years ago, with cricket
still being played here to this day, and more recently pop in the park, and
the winter festival with stalls and an ice skating rink.
Midsummer common: Also has a busy schedule with a large summer fair ground,
and the London to Cambridge bike ride finishing on the common, Strawberry
fair with live music stalls and a beer tent, Bonfire night fireworks and
huge fire supported by a fairground in the background.
We are in an excellent location for visiting the surrounding area, below
gives you some idea as these may not hold enough interest for you to want to
stay overnight but are easily accessible by car and train and bus from
Cambridge if you wish to make Cambridge your base.
Duxford Air shows: We are only 12 miles away from Duxford Imperial Air
Museum, where you can fly in an old airplane or go for a day trip well worth
a visit.
Ely: My wife and I often walk to Ely and catch the train back the fastest we
walked last summer was under five hours, I'm going to walk to Kings' Lynn
someday, which is just over 40 miles, Ely is only about 15 miles from our
house and it's a lovely walk along the river nearly all the way with a pub
called five miles from anywhere on-route, the last three or four miles you
have stunning views of Ely Cathedral which never seems to get any closer,
other attractions are the Oliver Cromwell Museum and the Old fire Engine
restaurant well worth booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
Newmarket: Keep an eye open for race days on the July course, or the Rowley
mile course with live bands playing after the race meeting these are really
memorable days out with family and friends. Other attractions include
Tattersall's auctions Newmarket horse racing Museum, home to the Jockey
club, equine horse hospital and numerous studs.
Bury St Edmunds: Market town 40 minute drive away and home to Green King
brewers.
Lavenham: Beautiful Market town made rich by the wool and cotton trade in
the 15th-16th century.
